Meeting Structure

Each of our regular meetings follows a standard agenda. Click on the sections below to learn more.

Opening the Meeting

    • The Sergeant-at-Arms opens the meeting, informs everyone of the meeting protocols, and yields control of the meeting to the club President.

    • The President welcomes guests, greets club members, briefs the club on announcements, and then passes control of the meeting to the Toastmaster of the Day.

    • The Toastmaster of the Day (TMOD) introduces the theme of the meeting, gives a short presentation, and introduces the functionaries & speakers.

      • The Ah Counter inform club members that they will be charged 10 cents for each mistake. (Up to a maximum of 50 cents).

      • The Word Master informs club members that they will charged 10 cents if they do not use the word of the day.

Prepared Speeches

    • Club members present a rehearsed speech.

    • These speeches are usually between 5 to 7 minutes long.

    • The speaker chooses a topic that aligns with a development goal within their educational program.

    • If there is more than one speech during the meeting, attendees vote on the "Best Speaker" for the meeting.

Table Topics

    • The Toastmaster of the Day introduces the Table Topics Master.

    • The Table Topics Master leads Table Topics portion of the meeting.

    • The Table Topics portion of the meeting consists of the Table Topics Master asking impromptu questions that match the theme of the meeting.

    • Once all of the questions have been asked, attendees are asked to vote for the "Best Table Topics Speaker".

Evaluations

    • The Toastmaster of the Day introduces the General Evaluator, who oversees the evaluation portion of the meeting.

    • (Prior to the meeting, each speaker is assigned an evaluator who will pay attention to content, structure, body language, and other areas of improvement for the speaker's speech.)

    • The General Evaluator introduces the speech evaluators and informs the audience which speaker they are evaluating.

    • Each evaluator offers a report for their respective speaker.

    • Attendees are asked to vote for the Best Evaluator and Most Improved Speaker.

    • The General Evaluator provides their assessment for the meeting as a whole.

    • The General Evaluator returns control of the meeting to the Toastmaster of the Day.

Awards

    • (We want to acknowledge each member's growth so we recognize the best prepared speech, table topic response, and most improved speaker for each meeting.)

    • The Toastmaster of the Day calls on the Ballot Counter to present the winners for the evening.

    • The Ballot Counter presents the winners of the Best Speaker, Best Table Topics Response, and Most Improved Speaker.

Closing the Meeting

    • The Toastmaster of the Day makes final comments on the theme of the meeting and returns control of the meeting to the club President.

    • The President addresses any club business, like sharing information or actions that need to be taken.

    • The club President adjourns the meeting.
